In 2019 Leavers To Leaders had a 10-year vision –The LTL Way 2030: To run leadership sustainability training, to develop this generation and the next- all in line with the Development Goals 4 (SDGs) to improve youth literacy. We have now rooted the SDG 4 across all our training platforms, including and, in particular, our workshops in not just the formal training programme but in all aspects of our leadership development accelerators for senior & middle management. Through a strong dedication from the top and the passion and energy of Samuel T. Reddy, CEO of LEAVERS TO LEADERS we are now partnering with companies & organisations under Development Goal 17 (SDG17) who understand how the multiplier effect of literacy empowers children, enabling them to participate fully in society and contributes to improve communities.
Samuel is a multi-award-winning member of the British Armed Forces and an international best-selling author of the book Leavers To Leaders, which reached an Amazon #l bestseller in the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada. As an inspirational Keynote Speaker, he usually discusses various topics, including the ‘3 L.O.S of Leadership’ & Leaders Operating System’. Born in Mauritius, Samuel grew up on a sugar cane plantation from a working-class family and speaks English, Creole and fluent French. Samuel used his passion to reinvent himself and continuously improve his transitional journey. Now, he’s ready to focus on a new mission: to elevate the lives of thousands of others who are frustrated, undervalued and overlooked.
Introduce your approach to integrating SDG 4 into leadership?
Since 2019 Leavers To Leaders has adopted an early signatory to cultivate sustainable leaders to solve the world’s greatest challenges as part of the Leaders Operating System (L.O.S). The close alignment of the L.O.S with LTL’s mission and values plays a central role in our training, research and partnership policies and strategies. As a training organisation operating in the UK and the Sub Saharan Africa, we want to strategically position ourselves to develop leaders who not only can deal with the context of change and adapt unique leadership approaches to the challenges of the future but also develop new strategies when it comes to dealing with ambiguity and leadership to move forward. Hence why, we are also aligned with SDG17 – partnership for the goals to issues such as ensuring quality education for all, access to primary & secondary education, early childhood development, relevant skills for decent work, gender equality and inclusion, universal youth and adult literacy and educating our youth for sustainable development and global citizenship. At LTL, we believe in a better self for a better world.
How did you develop this strategy?
We worked with various organisations in the UK, from the military, police, universities and the NHS, to develop leaders during their leadership transition for sustainability (LTS-UK) under our accelerators. But in 2018, the 12 big companies worldwide, including the top 3, Apple, Amazon & Google, announced that they will no longer require employees to have a college degree. Many organisations follow this because the new digital world we are now experiencing with COVID-19 is fast speeding, and it is much easier to access knowledge and information to grow and develop. Still, literacy and reading are at the core of it. Working with many leaders facing a career transition, It has become obvious that our future leaders need to be more creative, think critically to solve problems and become more confident in their approach to life.

Our CPC model is designed with this in mind, and this is why we are on a mission to support as many children as possible in joining ‘The SugarCane Boy BookClubs’. We call it the LTL Way. We are now putting teams in place to deliver our accelerators to young children in a fun and enjoyable way.

What’s next? Over the next few weeks, responding to COVID-19 change, we are focusing on leadership and career transition across many areas in Mauritius. People have suddenly come to realise that a job is not for life, and in a changing world, you have to reinvent yourself to be ahead of the game continuously. So, each time an individual or a corporation buys our products and services, they also enable us to improve youth literacy in Mauritius, especially for the underprivileged.
